Attorneys, civil-law notaries, trademark and patent agents

ATTORNEYS-AT-LAW

As attorney-at-law or civil-law notary with a general practice or with another specialist area (for example, business law, labour law, immovable property law, family law), you may sometimes be confronted with cases that you do not want to take on. But referring the client to a competing office is not a very attractive option.

We are pleased to assist you and your client in  our  legal areas of expertise. In consultation, we can determine the extent of our cooperation, the approach to be pursued and the way of working and communicating with each other.

This may mean that we assist you behind the scenes in dealing with a client matter. This may be sufficient when it comes to reviewing documents − for example, in the context of a due diligence before an acquisition. Experience shows however that in most cases, it will be better if we handle the entire file ourselves. Naturally, the client's interests will be our primary concern.

Okay, but why Louwers?

The main advantage for you is that we do not pose any 'threat' for your position in relation to the client, because we confine ourselves to the legal areas of IP and IT and, for our part, we do not want to venture into other branches of law.

TRADEMARK AND PATENT AGENCIES

For you, as an agent, the time may come that you need a specialised lawyer for your client. Of course, this is particularly true in the case of litigation, where you can rely on our knowledge and experience. But you may also consider the option of cooperation in the field of trademark strategy, exploitation models for IP rights, Intellectual Asset Management, due diligence, correction of past registrations under an incorrect name, et cetera.

We cooperate with great success and pleasure with a number of agencies in the interest of our joint clients. Your services and ours fulfil separate but complementary needs.

For example, we are happy to leave the registration and monitoring of trademarks, models, patents and plant breeders' rights to you. Our organization is not equipped for that purpose. Here, too, our slogan 'every man to his trade' is applicable. We are also happy to ask you to represent the interests of our own clients in your specialist area.
